Earrings are set with cabochons made of Leland Blue, a slag glass which is a product of iron refining that occured in the past. The Leland Lake Superior Iron Company operated in Leland, Michigan from 1870-1885. They dumped their slag into the lake (environmental regulations at that time being what they were), and it continues to wash up onto the shore of Lake Michigan now where it can be gathered and cut into lovely stones like these. The Leland Blue stones are set in handmade sterling silver settings accented with hand hammered details and loops recalling the moon. Ear wires are handmade of 20 gauge wire. They are oxidized and polished to a soft shine. Earrings measure 3 5/8 inches long.
